Philanthropy Project for 2024-2025

Early Childhood Education Program

New Goal:  $20,000

PHWC is happy to continue helping the Early Childhood Education program grow and thrive. Over the course of the year, you will have opportunities to donate and volunteer.

The Early Childhood Education program is for children (4 months – 5 years) to learn while their parent or guardian are simultaneously enrolled in the Adult English Literacy Program.

It provides a child-centered, literacy-rich environment for young children, designed to meet the unique needs that prepares the children for kindergarten and their future.

Financial Assistance in rebuilding the Children's House

This building housed the classrooms for the children learning at the Vickery Meadow site.  In the winter, with the big freeze, the pipes froze and the building was flooded. Due to the age of the building (a 1950's little cottage) asbestos was found which required a total gutting of the structure to properly remediate.  PHWC will raise funds to go towards renovation of the building.

Substitute Volunteer Teachers are needed!

Volunteer teachers are needed to teach English and mentor students to integrate into American society. It is only two hours a week and flexible days and times are available. Training  and a full daily curriculum is provided. It is a fun and rewarding experience and a great way to give back to the community. Your efforts result in truly appreciative students; laughing and smiling and eager to learn.

Classes start in September. Please sign up as soon as possible. You may also sign up as a teacher or a substitute teacher.

Literacy Achieves

MISSION

To equip non-English speaking adults and their young children with English literacy and life skills to promote self-sufficiency and the overall well-being of our students, their families and the greater community.

IMPACT

Lack of English literacy severely limits access to employment, effective parenting, and preventative healthcare while increasing vulnerability to living in poverty.

Literacy Achieves understands the difficulty many non-native English speakers have in finding the time, transportation, technology, childcare or money they need in order to attend English language classes.

"In Dallas County, 21% of adults  cannot read or write English at a basic level"
